Eps 1: Welcome to Points of Discussion

Episode 1

The text discusses the issue of illegal immigration at the southern border and criticizes both liberals and conservatives for not effectively addressing the problem. It highlights the negative consequences of illegal immigration, such as strain on cities and the community tax base, and provides a proposed solution for immigration. The author suggests establishing specific justifications for legal immigration, such as addressing labor shortages and boosting economic growth. They propose a process where employers and levels of government identify the roles to be filled, compensation, and minimum employment timeline for immigrants. The government would also be responsible for identifying demographic and cultural diversity needs and funding immigrants for a defined timeframe. The text emphasizes the need to control and define the immigration process and proposes closing the border to stop illegal immigration and the flow of drugs.

Welcome to Points of Discussion, the podcast where we delve into a wide range of topics, from current events to politics, science, and everything in between. I'm your host, and today we have an exciting lineup of discussions that promise to engage, inform, and entertain.

Over the past three years, we have watched as our government dithers over the onslaught of illegal immigration at the southern border. It would seen that neither liberals, nor conservatives, are willing to actually address the problem. Rather, they are content to lob accusatory bombs at each other.
Meanwhile, our cities are being overrun by the constant flow on non-productive immigrants who are sapping the community tax base. We have all seen the pictures of tents blocking sidewalks, streets fouled by human feces and drug paraphernalia, children forced into labor, women forced into prostitution, and drug mules, pushers, and users infecting our youth.
No matter who takes the first stand – liberals or conservatives – their position will be ridiculed, claimed to be xenophobic, uncaring about humanity, anti-child, anti-woman, and, just generally, bad people. The ones who don’t do anything will rest on their laurels, demeaning the enemy while accomplishing nothing whatsoever.
So, against my better judgement, I will offer a baseline solution – and then seek cover.
At its basic level, US immigration (legal or illegal) has a bi-directional purpose for the US and for the immigrant.

From the perspective of the country receiving immigrants, the purpose of immigration can include:
1. Addressing labor shortages: Immigration can help to fill gaps in the labor market by providing workers with specific skills and expertise that are in demand.
2. Boosting economic growth: Immigrants can contribute to economic growth by starting businesses, paying taxes, and creating jobs.
3. Meeting demographic needs: Immigration can help to address demographic changes, such as aging populations or declining birth rates, by providing a source of younger workers and families.
4. Enhancing cultural diversity: Immigration can bring new cultural perspectives, traditions, and experiences to a country, enriching its social fabric.
From the perspective of the individual or family immigrating, the purpose of immigration can include:
1. Seeking better economic opportunities: Immigration can provide access to better-paying jobs, higher education, and improved standards of living.
2. Escaping persecution or conflict: Immigration can provide a safe haven for those fleeing persecution, war, or other forms of violence in their home country.
3. Reuniting with family: Immigration can help families reunite across international borders.
4. Pursuing education or other personal goals: Immigration can provide access to educational opportunities, cultural experiences, or other personal goals.

So, how do we meet these divergent, and often directly oppositional, purposes for immigration?
First, the US must establish specific justification for legal immigration. There must be a specific need for that particular immigrant. Employers and levels of government must identify the role to be filled by each immigrant.
For example, an employer must identify a specific set of skills required – essentially, they will guarantee a job to an immigrant that meets their specific needs. They must identify the role to be filled, and the compensation to be earned. Further, the company must be willing to pay transportation costs (cutting off the cash flow to coyotes and drug cartels).
Both the immigrant, and the company, must agree to a minimum of employment timeline (not less than three years), under penalty of law.
Once an employment agreement is reached, the corporation must notify the federal government of the agreement, so proper immigration papers can be processed.
At the city, state, or federal level, the presiding government will be responsible for identifying demographic needs and cultural diversity needs to be satisfied by a finite number of immigrants. Like a corporation, the government will be responsible to explicitly define the immigrant characteristics required. Further, the government will be responsible for complete funding of these incoming immigrants for a clearly defined timeframe (not less than three years). Of course, this will motivate the government agency to assist the immigrant in moving into the labor force (education support, job training, etc.) as quickly as possible.
These needs will be identified to the federal immigration control agency, who will identify the specific immigrant (who has applied at the local embassy) for acceptance into the US.
This approach leaves only those immigrants seeking asylum. Asylum is explicitly defined in international law. Poverty alone is generally not considered a valid reason for seeking asylum. Asylum is typically granted to individuals who are fleeing persecution in their home country based on factors such as their race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group. Family reunification and educational opportunity, while beneficial to the immigrant, do not benefit the US, and should be summarily refused as justification for immigration.
This process needs to be carefully controlled, and explicitly defined.
Once the LEGAL immigration is fixed, illegal immigration must be stopped. The border must be closed, and any illegal immigrant must be summarily deported.
These processes need to be implemented … and the border MUST be closed. The flow of illegals is devastating our economy, and the flow of drugs is killing our citizens.
