One of the best ways to get your hands on the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 is almost certainly through a prebuilt gaming PC that has the graphics card installed. Unfortunately, with great power comes high prices, and you are going to have to pay an exorbitant amount of money in order to get your hands on the Nvidia RTX 4090.
Despite looking superficially similar to cards from last year, the RTX 4090 represents a crazy strong option, even more so than Nvidias two announced RTX 4080 cards. For a spotless 4K experience, you might also consider the RTX 3090 Ti, a card that stands alone in the RTX 30 family. The RTX 3090 is an excellent card by any measure, and the good news here is that its pricing continues to drop.
Especially since you can definitely get a previous-gen card, like the RTX 3090, for cheaper. Going forward means that, unless you are absolutely desperate to own the best hardware, a 3090, RTX 3080, or 3070 might actually be all you really need.
The only way we could find of buying 4090s now is by purchasing the PS5,000 Germanium Z7 Custom Gaming PC at OverclockersUK, which contains an RTX 3090. As far as single RTX 4090s go, pretty much everywhere is out of stock, except the overpriced cards that can be found currently at Amazon .
We are now far deeper into the launch period of the RTX 4090, and accordingly, available supplies of the beastly GPU are getting increasingly difficult to come by. Much like with 3080, 4090s stock situation looks a lot more promising in the UK, where the squeezed living costs appear to have had a major effect on sales: People simply cannot afford to drop hundreds upon hundreds of dollars on a new GPU right now.
Meanwhile, retail stock for the RTX 4090 is still thin on the ground in the USA, so your options are basically waiting on stock from retailers such as US-based Best Buy and Micro Center, or brave unofficial sellers on Amazon and Newegg. Amazon does not have listings as yet, but you can expect links to start going up at about the same time as the product launches elsewhere. If you are not in a hurry, you should monitor and set stock alerts at Newegg, Best Buy, and B&H, as they are all purporting to be selling RTX 4090 cards at under $2000, with some models going as low as $1599.
Nvidias flagship RTX 4090 is available at a variety of online retailers, like and, but cards priced close to MSRP are sold out. The flagship RTX 4090 has been languishing in a shortage of inventory for weeks, but now it looks like you might actually be able to purchase one -- just if you are willing to pay well, way beyond MSRP. While it is customary for a crazy rush to get hold of GPUs when they are released, Nvidia and the online retailers are taking an entirely different approach this time, making the RTX 4090 listings available long before the release date, giving people time to shop around and figure out what they want at release.
Nvidias GeForce RTX 4090 is expected to be released in the UK as well in October, with at least one retailer already offering a way to register interest and get stock updates as launch day approaches. Nvidia is probably using the Nvidia GeForce Experience application - it also determines what GPU is installed in the PC - to help find customers who are willing to pay $1,599 for an RTX 4090.
That $1 is MSRP at its lowest, as is the price for the Nvidias superb Founders Edition, but far pricier options are also on the table. The cheapest model we could find in the U.S. was this MSI RTX 4090 on Newegg, selling for $2,100 -- half a grand above the original MSRP given by Nvidia. The insaneness of those prices has made some of us actually looking forward to the RTX 4080, set to have a $1200 MSRP .
Personally, I am still waiting on a 7900 XTX, and I do not have any real regrets, judging from performance per dollar for the RTX 4080. That has not been the case in this generation, and sales for the RTX 4080 are showing us how Nvidias customers feel about it. Of course, scalpers are also trying their luck with new ADa cards, and although they had some success with the 4090, their success so far with the RTX 4080 seems to have been modest at best.
