African Americans across the nation are aware and concerned about the ongoing existence of racebased profiling of this segment of the population by members of some police departments.In the not too distant past, some American police forces were tasked with enforcing both de jure and de facto racial apartheid laws and customs when they were directed to by elected officials, which has not been forgotten by African Americans and other racial minorities.Law enforcement officers should be civil and respectful and abstain from authoritarian or dictatorial language in their interactions with all members of the public unless an emergency situation requires them to use such language to gain compliance with a lawful order.The National Association for Police Reform NAACP recently released its first report on how it operates.
