We start the media selection process after we understand the project goals and type of paint to be used.
More recently that too has changed and more and more people are using baking soda or soda blasting as a method to remove paint and rust.
Soda blasting is simple, easy and low risk, the down side is soda is not very aggressive and may not fully clean your surfaces to an acceptable standard, especially for removing rust.

Chemical strippers leave behind a perfectly smooth surface, so you may need to scuff up the surface before applying a new coating.Thermal stripping is quite popular because it's one of the quickest ways to remove powder coating.The extremely high temperatures required to remove powder coating may warp or damage parts.This method will prevent discoloration and deglaze from forming. This can result in an even more visible effect on your skin than normal with these methods. I am not sure how long this process takes for me when I finally get back into my car!
I have a steel framefork I'm going to get powder coated.For powder coating metal surface has to be 100 oil free, so blasting and then powder coating is a 12since touching the bare metal leaves oil from your hands.To coat with my own pliers, i will cover it in plastic but not aluminum.
