Project 007 is the newest James Bond title from Hitman developer, IO Interactive. IO is responsible for some of the best stealth-action games in recent memory, and the James Bond series has been crying out for a good new title for years. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the James Bond series, which means that this is a great time to bring back a classic Nintendo 64 shooter from retirement.
To date, the only time GoldenEye 007 has appeared on a platform other than the N64 was in the 2010 Wii Shop remake, in which Pierce Brosnan played as the then-current Bond, Daniel Craig. There are rumors and reports stating a remake of the classic Nintendo 64 title, GoldenEye 007, is in the works, with an announcement expected shortly. The classic Nintendo 64 game is a first-person shooter released in August 1997 for the Nintendo 64.
GoldenEye 007 is credited with showing that a funny first-person shooter experience could be created on home consoles, both for solo play and multiplayer mode--at the time of GoldenEye 007s release, the first-person shooter genre was mostly reserved for PC games. Shortly after its release in 1997, Electronic Gaming Monthly listed GoldenEye 007 as the 25th best console video game of all time, calling it arguably the best cinematic shooter, and, even more important, the best first-person game ever. Gamers do not agree, with Mario Kart 64 selling 9.87 million copies -- one million more than Super Mario Kart. A stone-cold classic, and one that I will make the argument is the greatest multiplayer game ever made, Rares Goldeneye 007 was released in August 1997, two years after Pierce Brosnans first Bond movie arrived in theaters.
In the end, worldwide sales of Ocarina tallied 7.6 million units, and it went on to win six awards at the 2nd Annual Interactive Achievement Awards, including Game of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Interactive Design, Outstanding Achievement in Software Engineering, Console Game of the Year, Console Adventure Game of the Year, and Console RPG of the Year, along with a nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Character or Story Development. The first installment in the Super Smash Bros. series saw crossovers between several different Nintendo franchises, the likes of which had never been seen before. From its humble beginnings, to its debut in 1998, Star Wars: The Legend of Zelda, to its debut at Nintendo, to its debut in 1998, to its debut in 1998, to its debut at Nintendo, to its debut in 1998, to its debut in 1998, to its debut at Nintendo 64, Rare developed by Rare. Four out of the 10 best-selling games for the Nintendo 64, four out of the Top 10 Best Selling Games for the Nintendo 64, Rare developed by Rare. Following on from the success of the Nintendo 64 classic, Electronic Arts released a title of the same name some years later, though in reality, it had no connection with the original title.
The Nintendo 64 classic is still missing, but hope is the last thing that is ever lost, especially when the trademark for a video game has just been renewed. First released by renowned developer Rare back in 1997 for the Nintendo 64, Goldeneye 007 managed to overturn the common fates of film tie-in games to become a hugely beloved title for the Nintendo, and is considered to this day one of the greatest video games of all time. Goldeneye 007 has not seen a re-release, since Goldeneye 007s a legal mess requiring every rights owner, including Nintendo, Microsoft, and MGM, to get their heads out of a knot.
Goldeneye trademarks specify the term Goldeneye to be available for electronic downloadable software, and such terms, that may indicate a cancelled digital remaster/remaster may possibly surface again, but this time as a completed product. We do not know if Microsoft has any interest in any future GoldenEye remasters, but that seems exactly the sort of "Day One" Game Pass, "spare no expense" kind of thing that they would be willing to make at this point. Good thing that there is still some more evidence suggesting that Goldeneye 007 is going to make a comeback.
Then there is MGM, the studio in charge of the Bond movie franchise, which will have a voice as well, since they own the movies MGM has adapted into the Rare games. Microsoft suggested that GoldenEye 007 would fit well on the XBLA), leading British studio Rare to begin work on the remaster before getting permission from Nintendo, believing it would be no issue since GoldenEye 007 was one of the Nintendo 64s best-selling games. The British studio Rare completed the conversion and removed most bugs from the final product, having nearly completed the golden version of GoldenEye 007, but learned Nintendo had not cleared the product, stopping development until negotiations over rights could be discussed, putting an end to the development until negotiations over rights were discussed, , , which eventually fell through.
The British studio Rare visited the set of the GoldenEye films multiple times in order to gather photographs and schematics for the sets. The roster is looking for individuals with experience working on 3rd-person action games to be involved in the Project 007 effort. There is actually quite a bit of mystery surrounding this project, and Hitman developer IO Interactive has noted this next title is going to have a new Bond -- he is one that we have not seen yet, either in film or in any related media. Danjaq, LLC, a holding company controlling most characters and trademarks related to the James Bond movie franchise, was granted an extension on GoldenEye 007s trademarks on March 15.
Crying is the reason we are looking to Project 007 as the start of a new era for stealthy spy games, and the reason why we are hoping to see Project 007 again at E3 2022.
British studio Rare has identified 1994 Sega lightgun shooter Virtua Cop, Id Softwares groundbreaking 1993 first-person shooter Doom, and the launch title for Nintendo 64, Super Mario 64, as influences.
